When should a campaign order its printing?

  1. As soon as you have a logo and slogan: order yard signs and door hangers. Signs go up for supporters first; door hangers go out with every canvassing shift.
  2. Before early voting starts: mail an EDDM postcard to the routes in your district so every household sees your name and face.
  3. The last week: a get-out-the-vote door hanger or second mailer with the Election Day date and polling-place reminder.
  4. After the election: collect your signs. Many cities set a deadline for removing campaign signs.

What rules apply to campaign signs and mailers?

  • "Paid for by" disclaimer. Most campaign materials must carry one. Wording rules differ for federal, state and local races; check with your state election office or counsel. We print exactly what is on your approved proof.
  • Sign placement. Many cities restrict signs on public right-of-way and set size, placement and removal rules. Check your local ordinance before signs go out.
  • Mailboxes. Door hangers go on doors, never in mailboxes. Anything in a mailbox needs postage.
  • EDDM postage is paid to USPS per piece when you drop the mailing off.
